In the role of Data Integrity Manager I was tasked with assisting the procurement team through data cleansing and analysis while also leading the Data Integrity team composed of Master Data and Reporting Officers. In addition to providing key analysis, I facilitated self-service analysis by building analytic tools utiliising Microsoft Power BI.

Perth

I was first engaged at FMG as lead cost control on the Christmas Creek Upgrade ($AU900m) which included the construction of an additional Ore Processing Facility and associated infrastructure at the Christmas Creek in Western Australia. In addition to this I oversaw other smaller projects, the largest of which being the addition of a wet front end to the existing Ore Processing Facility at the Cloudbreak Mine in Western Australia ($AU300m). In late 2013, I was tasked with closing out the T155 Rail Project which though close to completion in a physical sense, required significant work from a project controls perspective particularly in the data analysis space to assist the Project Directors with variation claim assessments. Early in 2014 I was tasked with leading the Cost Control team on the AP5 Project ($AU250m) which involved the construction of an additional Wharf in Port Hedland as well as reconfiguration of the conveyor outload circuit. During my tenure as a Lead Cost Controller at FMG, I was also involved in numerous estimates, options studies and general data analysis to support both operational and project sides of the business.

The Midwest Rail Project ($AU540m) involved upgrading approximately 200km of rail from Geraldton to Tilley in Western Australia. As Lead Cost Engineer John was tasked with implementing the cost control system (CMS), leading and training all junior staff as well as leading the team from a cost perspective in addition to general cost control duties.

Boyne Island / Montevideo

The Boyne Smelter Development Project ($AUS685m) included a Brownfields component of upgrading and repairing the existing crane runway and installation of a new Alumina Distribution System and a Greenfield Carbon Bake Furnace. In addition to general Cost Control duties, I created a customised planning tool which would show the optimal work footprints given location availability. Following my tenure on the Boyne Smelter Development, I was seconded to the Valentines Feasibility Study in Montevideo, Uruguay. In this role I was responsible for the implementation and operation of the cost system and development of project controls procedures. Additionally, I developed all escalation profiles for anticipated construction resources as well as claim assessment, monthly report preparation and intermittently performed the project scheduling role.

Rio De Janeiro Area, Brazil

The Corumba Expansion Project (US$2.1b) involved the expansion of the existing mine from 2.4Mtpa to 10.4Mtpa facilities as well the development of material handling in hubs along a river running from Brazil through to Uruguay where offloading and reloading would be required on to different barge configurations. In my role I was responsible for the roll out of the cost control system as well implementation of the change management process while leading the local cost team. The project was cancelled during this tenure at which point my role shifted toward ensuring proper close out of all financials.

My initial role at KBR involved producing a pre-feasibility estimate for above ground infrastructure for the proposed WAFI mine upgrade in Papua New Guinea. This included options for all road access, water and power supply, concentrate handling and port facilities.In September 2007, I transitioned to the Kestrel Mine Extension Project ($AU586m) chiefly handling the change management process. During this time I also provided many options studies as well as performing normal cost control duties.

In the position of Cost Engineer for the Brownfields Mine Expansion at Tom Price ($AU370m) my duties included cost forecasting, weekly/monthly cost and progress reporting, CMS administration, preparation of capital appropriation requests, processing of contract variations; and processing of contractor payments.

Telfer

My position as Cost Controller for the Telfer Project - Stage 7 (AU$1.5b) involved cost forecasting of the overland conveyor, surface infrastructure, power station, underground electrical, and underground development in addition to schedule updates, processing of contract variations and processing contractor payments.
