• Originally employed on a 3 month contact to work on the ASP Control desk working with the UNIX NDA architecture I moved into a permanent position at the end of the contact.• Monitored all incoming and outgoing data feeds via VERITAS Cluster manager and Maestro Job scheduling Console• 1st level support for Reuters products including 300xtra, Reuters Messenger and Espresso • Half way through my time at Reuters we were also given responsibility for the main editorial system (System 77) based on a Tandem cluster.• Monitored end of day batches for Europe, America, and Asia using Maestro, Formula and GMI WebTop and escalated to 2nd level support teams if necessary. • Performed all weekly maintenance and reboots of the UNIX and oracle servers.• Monitored and performed any actions sent to the department using the Service centre 6.2 call login system.

• Originally employed as an operator on VAX/VMS clusters to monitor and maintain overnight batch processing. The role progressed into Unix and Wintel support with various versions of ControlM, Patrol, Openview and SIM being implemented.• Proactively monitored overnight batches to ensure SLAs were not impacted and escalated problems to support teams where necessary.• Demonstrated the ability to solve technical problems through logical thinking and assessment of logs, documentation, procedures, etc.• Showed keen interest in all new systems, job failures and issues and followed through to conclusion as the understanding of a process simplifies the support. • Created adhoc DCL command procedures when running VMS backups and other tasks. • Evaluated then revamped the department web site and was also responsible for updating this on a regular basis.• Ensured that all overnight/monthly backups and restores for the organisations Unix, VMS, and Wintel systems completed successfully.• Monitored network connections for offices around the world and escalated any problems where necessary. • Produced many written procedures on various aspects of the DCO role and updated existing procedures where necessary.
