My goal in life is to assist in building strong children. Since graduating from the University of Shippensburg in 2007, I have worked with the Youth Advocacy Program and have had the opportunity work with dozens of children who have not been fortunate enough to receive the encouragement and motivation to become successful adults. Most of these children see no choices in their futures – no opportunity to become more than they are now. Alternatively, many express unrealistic goals or are unable to comprehend the means by which realistic goals can be achieved. My wish is to show these children the opportunities that exist for them and, more importantly, to provide them with the motivation and confidence to explore these opportunities. This can only be done person to person, one child at a time. As borne out by my own experience, it takes only one person to plant a seed of positive motivation and inspiration. After earning my Graduate Degree in 2012, my hope is that I will be able to provide others with more effective strategies, better communication skills and deeper insights into motivating young people to pursue leadership opportunities and to make appropriate life decisions. Although I regard a deep commitment to the welfare of young people as a prerequisite to my vocational plans, I am also aware that good intentions can take me just so far toward my goal of being a truly effective force in children's lives. I very much want to benefit from the insights that can be gained from a more formal approach to youth issues so that I may be effective as an advocate and teacher as well as committed as a human being.
