I am a retired academic and pharmaceutical research scientist. The physiology of excitable cells, especially cardiac myocytes, and the pharmacology of drug actions on heart tissues and adipose tissue was my focus. Scientific writing and editing were my best skills. My greatest satisfaction both at Gilead and at CV Therapeutics was the high productivity and commitment of my direct reports, who contributed experimental data enabling numerous technical documents and more than 20 peer-reviewed scientific publications. In retirement, my commitments are to (1) landscaping with native plants to benefit birds, pollinators, and other animals; (2) classroom volunteering with elementary school children to help them learn mathematics; (3) and working to maintain and promote a local National Recreation Trail. I have completed the Tennessee Naturalist Program and am a certified naturalist in that state.
