These are some of the adages that apply to my approach to life and work. This work / life ethic has served me well during a 40+ year engineering career; first working twenty years performing design and analysis work (i.e. finite element analysis ) for several major defense contractors; and then the second half of my career working for myself, specializing in engineering design, analysis, and R&D for a variety of projects including: Safe and Arm Fuze Design, Airbursting Munitions, fragmenting warheads, recreational activity products for ATV’s, UTV’s, and RV’s, subsonic ammunition, multiple SBIR contracts, and high tech accessories for sporting arms.One over-shadowing theme of my professional career is constant growth through self education. When a past employer needed in-house expertise in interior ballistics analysis, or later in system effectiveness analysis, I took the initiative to learn these technologies and became an expert in the fields. As owner of Southwest Services LLC, when we needed to fabricate prototype parts and local machine shops were too expensive and could not meet our schedule, I purchased CNC lathes and mills and learned how to operate an R&D machine shop and program these machines to fabricate parts. Most recently when our business needed the ability to integrate micro-processor capability into several new development projects, I learned how to program microprocessors and create the integrated circuits to implement these designs.

The venture grew over time to include R&D machine shop capability as well as testing capability for defense products. SWS has won multiple SBIR contracts; although during recent years we have been focusing our efforts more on commercial products than government contracts. That is not to say we won't participate on a Government contract if it was a topic that we found interesting.
