Operates three or more range-control radio nets to control ranges and live fire maneuver, monitor training areas, and provide instructions and advisory information to preclude aircraft incursion into activated restricted air spaces. Authorizes the opening, check fire, cease fire and closing of all live fire ranges, artillery and mortar firing points, training sites and training areas through operation and communication via multiple radio nets. Transmits pertinent safety operational information for situations not covered by instructions, regulations or SOPs to range OICs and Safety Officers and Range Division personnel exercising independent safety judgment during non-supervised hours of work. Using knowledge of safety procedures, ammunition, or reported danger conditions (hazard duty areas, high fire danger conditions) grants or denies permission for units or maintenance personnel to go downrange or leave the range. Determines when to order check fire on ranges, and mortar firing points. Based on daily flight restrictions, advises aircraft operating in the restricted airspace of any firing or training hazardous to flight. Enforces airspace restrictions and limitations by providing advisories to pilots requesting to transit the restricted airspace as to route to follow and status of live-fire ranges. Disseminates such safety information as severe weather watches or warnings, heat categories, fire danger classes, aircraft over flights, and other factors. Maintains contact with emergency medical personnel, including MEDEVAC units and EMS for directing medical evacuation of injured personnel. Requests airspace through Fort Knox Reservation to clear airspace of aircraft up to maximum altitude of ordnance being fired. Maintains contact with explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) units to report and coordinate for destruction of unexploded munitions found on the installation and bomb threats on and off the installation Show less
