This requires the use of a wide variety of databases, due to the broad scope of enquires, covering company finances, financial market data including the use of different analytical tools, economic data, broker reports, mergers & acquisitions, case law & legislation, accounting standards, land titles, tax treaties, current awareness and marketing information packs. I am also involved in some long term and ongoing projects for business development and to solve technical accountancy issues. I work at a high school in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, teaching 15-18 year old. This involves using textbooks supplied by the school as well as making worksheets, powerpoint presentations, tests and other materials. Sometimes the material was based on a textbook or was an original idea suggested by the Japanese English teacher. In class it is important to try to get the students to practise speaking English, while also interacting with students around the school outside of the classroom setting. I was helped students take part in international conferences where the students were required to present in English.

Wishborn is an English language school based in Wakayama. My position involved teaching students of all ages in groups or individually. I taught at four kindergartens in Osaka, these classes had anywhere from 5 to 20 students, involved using flashcards, songs, storybooks and games to make learning fun. At Wishborn’s school I taught similar age students using the same method. For students from 5-12 years old a flashcard based method was used which concentrated on pronunciation of English. The method required doing many activities using different parts of speech regularly and often. With students over 12 years of age various textbooks were used that were appropriate to their age and level. Some classes were free conversation.

I also did internal product training and a monthly presentation for new starters.

LGC provides very accurate chemical analysis on any substance including food stuffs, forensics and DNA testing. My role involved carrying out enquiry work covering analytical chemical methods, scientific literature searches, government standards, patents and company financials. I was responsible for the research and compilation of a monthly current awareness bulletin on LGC's clients. I carried out inter-library loans, scientific document supply, introductory database training and promoted the information services internally.

The Research Station is the scientific arm of the Charles Darwin Foundation, a charity concerned with the conservation of the Galapagos Islands. The library is the largest public resource in the archipelago. I worked as a solo librarian making all management decisions to provide a complete library service to match the diverse user needs while operating within a limited budget. The day-to-day tasks involved helping users with their queries in either English or Spanish, classifying, cataloguing and developing new services.

Towers Perrin (now WTW) is an international management consultancy firm. My role was in the Information Unit of the Employee Benefits Service which fulfilled all the information needs of the consultants. I compiled a weekly current awareness bulletin, for our Health and Risk team that exploited various online and trade literature sources. Secondly I provided information for general enquires which included pension fund details, economic statistics, company information and financial data. Finally I indexed selected articles from the various trade and academic periodicals onto the catalogue database.

My responsibilities included enquiry work, the provision of business information within both the UK and European environment, control of the acquisition process for all publications, responding to an increasing demand for items in electronic formats, monitoring expenditure, producing a daily current awareness bulletin, performing general library work such as cataloguing and filing.
