The Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), a statutory board under the Ministry of Law since April 2001, is the lead government agency that advises on and administers intellectual property (IP) laws, promotes IP awareness and provides the infrastructure to facilitate the development of IP in Singapore. The Public Outreach Department aims to groom an IP savvy generation by raising IP awareness among general public and educating them from young on IP issues. During my tenure at the office, I honed my interpersonal skills as I have to make cold calls and interact with the general public before or during outreach initiatives. Having given the chance to express my recommendations about projects, I also trained up my analytical mind. My main responsibilities include:- Maintaining and coming up with new initiatives for the department’s flagship initiative for public awareness, the HIP (Honour IP) Alliance, a collaborative effort between government and industry players that seeks to encourage people to respect IP and to reject piracy. - Meetings and networking with business partners and potential sponsors for the department- Assists the school education programme that seeks to teach students on IP in a fun and interactive way.- Heavily involved in the first ever IP race which aims to teach important IP lessons to the public through interactive ways in an amazing race event

In addition, the OCBC Group has diverse subsidiaries that are involved in insurance, financial futures, regional stockbroking, trustee, nominee and custodian services, property development and hotel management.In my short stint at the accounts department in OCBC, I was given very little time to adapt to the situation as the department was facing immense workload during the closing of their financial year. Thus, I learnt many things on the job and I picked up many essential skills; independent learning, among many. My main responsibilities include:- Assistance to accounts closing for the financial year- Use of commercial accounting programme for archival of accounts- Handling queries from customers- Cold calls to initiate collection of bad debts
