John has developed a suite of tools that: help people first recognize technological hazards; learn what they need to know to demonstrate respect for these hazards; assess the risk presented to either the organization or the community, and then mitigate and plan for responding to these hazards in a timely and competent manner. These tools are responsive and flexible allowing the process to serve the community rather than the community serving the process and which build on the collaborative relationships that are required to truly comprehend the nature and many dimensions the potential consequences of any hazard may impact. These tools incorporate the wisdom and lessons learned from over 28 years of experience in leading many organizations in responding and planning for technological hazards, he has served as incident commander, safety officer, and operations and planning section chief.
