The command led the first combat sorties into three different operating areas, spanning Afghanistan, Iraq/Syria, and Somalia. Based on combat performance and ability to carry out wartime tasking, VFA-22 was awarded the 2020 Commander, Naval Air Forces, Pacific Fleet Battle Effectiveness Award and the 2020 RADM C. Wade McClusky Award for the top performing FA-18 squadron in the U.S. Navy.

Led the maintenance efforts of 215 Sailors, 14 Chief Petty Officers and 13 Officers in the launch, recovery, and maintenance of 13 FA-18F Super Hornet aircraft valued at more than $975 million dollars. U.S. Navy Subject Matter Expert on Laser Guided Weapons and Tactical Crew Coordination. Trained over 80 Strike Fighter Tactics Instructors during the rigorous TOPGUN syllabus. The TOPGUN course is designed to train already experienced Navy and Marine Corps aircrew at the graduate level in all aspects of FA-18 employment, including tactics, hardware, and the current world threat for air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.

Trained strike fighter aircrew in all aspects of FA-18 air-to-air employment at the squadron level. Instructed the Strike Fighter Weapons and Tactics syllabus for first tour aircrew in the FA-18F Super Hornet, conducting lectures, simulators, and flight events. Spearheaded VFA-103's first combat deployment with the FA-18F in 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Based on combat performance and ability to carry out wartime tasking, the squadron earned the Commander, Naval Air Forces, Atlantic Fleet (CNAL) Battle Effectiveness Award in consecutive years for 2006 and 2007.
