Staff Sergeant John B Stone Jr., a life-long resident of Connecticut, attended Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, CT, graduated in 1991. During this period in 1991 Staff Sergeant Stone enlisted in the Connecticut Army National Guard. He attended Infantry school at FT. Benning, GA and then was assigned to Co B 1/169th Inf in Danielson, CT. In 1993 Staff Sergeant Stone enlisted in the United States Army and attended Combat Medic school at FT. Sam Houston, TX. He was stationed first at FT Hood for three years with HHC 1/41 Inf BN 2nd Armored Div then with HHB 2/17th FA BN 2nd Infantry Div, Camp Hovey, Korea. In February of 1997, he then enlisted with the Connecticut Army National Guard and was assigned to Det 5 Medical Cmd. In December of 2003 Staff Sergeant Stone deploy with HSC 118th Med Bn in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Staff Sergeant Stone is currently assigned to Training Site Detachment at Camp Rell, Niantic, CT. Staff Sergeant Stone has been awarded the Expert Field Medical Badge, Army Achievement Medal(3rd Award), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal(2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal(2nd Award), Korea Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with (M) device

  Duties and responsibilities:(1) Formulates long and short range plans for the development of range facilities and the training areas. Develops input for the Army National Guard Major Training Area’s (MTA) five year range development plan, to include justifications for construction, programming documents, maps, overlays, and sketches. Develops program documents for funding standard target systems and remote engagement target systems identified for use on the range facilities programmed in the five year range development plan. Develops other associated programs of construction and budget estimates. Evaluates the size of the facilities to allow for projected use. Troop density, and to facilitate types of training required.(2) Oversees and directs the work of one or two subordinates assigned to the Operations and Training Division. Assists in development of performance standards, goals; and objectives for subordinate workers. Participates in interviews with applicants for subordinate positions and provides recommendations for selection. Provides technical guidance to lower graded workers. Assists in resolving complaints and grievances from employees which can be informally resolved. Promotes acceptance and adherence of programs such as Equal Employment Opportunity, Federal Women’s Program, Physically Handicapped, Labor Management Relations and other special emphasis programs. Assists in maintaining an effective position management program.(3) Coordinates with user organizations for use of MTA ranges and training facilities. Reviews and approves schedules to insure maximum training opportunities. Coordinates with using organizations to assists in obtaining support if not available at MTA, with units having requested support capabilities.(4) Prepares budget requirements for submission to support manday, training, schools and travel for the Operations and Training Division..
