I am currently an R&D engineer for CDM Smith working on developing comprehensive knowledge and innovative solutions to emerging contaminants in the environment. My primary areas of expertise are PFAS fate & transport, numerical modelling, data analytics & statistical modelling, analytical & environmental organic chemistry, and development of experimental processes. We work on several foam fractionation, rapid small scale column testing, jar testing, batch partitioning, dynamic column partitioning and other bench scale experimental analysis in the laboratory. I review and implement large scale groundwater models using well known software tools (CalSIM, HYDRUS, MODFLOW) with python integrations for data pre-processing and post processing. Experience in using numerical inversion tools such as PEST and PEST++.I received my PhD at the Colorado School of Mines working with the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program. This is a joint venture by the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and the Environmental Protection Agency to study the factors which affect the transport of PFASs in saturated and unsaturated groundwater systems.I received my master's degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in May of 2018. My master's thesis I completed as part of this degree was centered on a large scale risk analysis and data analytics project of the oil and gas industry. My team and I utilized the FracFocus database, and available toxicity, mobility, and persistence data to analyze the potential groundwater threat posed by compounds used in hydraulic fracturing jobs.

To accomplish this task, I refurbished and modernized a motorized x-ray absorbance spectroscopy system described by ferre et al. 2005. The system was designed in the late 1990's and was run by a Labview program on a Windows XP computer system, with data processing done on a separate laptop run on a Linux Unbuntu 16.0 distribution. To prevent failures due tosoftware depreciation or hardware failure, I migrated the LabView program and it's dependencies to a moder computing desktop running windows 10. Next, I reverse engineered the data processing program using a series of custom python algorithms. The code written for the program is robust and adheres to the object oriented programming paradigm.Large (1.1 meter long) 1-D columns were designed and maufactured for this experiment. The degree of saturation was controlled in sand media using peristaltic pumps attached to the top and bottom of the columns, and monitored using a combination of x-ray absorbance spectroscopy and remote sensing equipment. Conservative tracer flow was monitored using built-in conductivity sensors, and PFAS breakthrough curves (BTCs) were analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with quantiative time of flight (QTOF) and quantitative linear ion trap triple quadropole (QTRAP-Triple Quad) mass spectrometry.Separate research projects include analyzing political risk for business development in Myanmar and a quantitative risk assessment for PFOS and PFOA transport in groundwater systems. My team and I utilized the FracFocus database, and available toxicity, mobility, and persistence data to analyze the potential groundwater threat posed by compounds used in hydraulic fracturing jobs. We then analyzed the spatio-temporal trends related to the risk in the FracFocus database. We are currently working on multiple manuscripts to be submitted to scientific journals for publication. I am currently finishing work on another oil and gas data analytics project related to the Notices of Alleged Violations (NOAVs) in the Colorado Oil and Gas Control Commission Database (COGCC).As part of my funding for this degree, I worked with various UC boulder laboratries to perfrom groundwater characterizations of private well throughout boulder county. This included major ion analysis via IC/ICP MS, stable isotope analysis using Piccaro C13 mass spectrometers, alkalinity buffer capacity analysis, and pH analysis.I have continued to collaborate with the oil and gas data analytics group at CU to publish this work on oil and gas data/risk analysis and help do initial training of any new data analysts.
