Provided technical and managerial support to an energy from waste (EfW) plant focusing on the facility’s operational and maintenance activities, with an emphasis on plant safety, cost reduction and the optimisation of operational efficiency. As part of the senior management team developed the plant processes and procedures, recruited and selected all technical and operations personnel, established support contracts and liaised with Suffolk County Council to ensure all customer requirements were met.•Procured and implemented a computerised maintenance management system and developed companywide strategy to enhance equipment availability.•Developed a safety management system to capture all plant activities and support safe working practices via effective risk assessment and the use of safe working procedures to support a robust permit to work system.•Key member of the Lean Six Sigma Steering Committee responsible for developing a continuous improvement culture across the organisation’s EfW plants. Following a 2 year apprenticeship to complete a BTEC National Diploma, carried out mechanical maintenance of rotary wing aircraft. Rapidly progressed into a supervisor’s role. This involved the organisation of preventative maintenance work activity for a fleet of up to 12 aircraft and 30 technicians.
