At school in 6th form I had designed and built valve HiFi equipment and operated Tx/Rx gear with the ATC, where in 1955 I obtained a glider pilots licence.After working for the Marconi Co. (1960 to 62), I joined Ferranti Ltd as an applications engineer. I joined Granada Television in 1965 to design special TV studio equipment, radio mic's, construct light weight outside broadcast hand held 405 line TV cameras.I retured to work for Ferranti in 1967/8 when colour TV was introduced to Britain. Granada had boughtnew colour studios and there was no need for my design services. I designed my first integrated circuit at Ferranti on a 40 volt 10um bipolar process in 1968.It contained a regulator with an output of 24volts, a 15mV threshold circuit based on bandgap technique and a 4 Amp 40 volt SCR.In 1970 I was appointed Head of Linear Design in the new Ferranti Microelectronics Ltd.In 1980 I joined Standard Telecommunications Laboratories in Harlow as Manager of the VLSI LinearDesign Department.In 1984 I left STL and joined my Wife to design chips for her chip layout company Thompson Microsystems.In 2004 I set up ChipDesign Limited and have worked mainly in The Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
