Having been involved in Building Services Engineering since 1972 and working in contracting, consultancy and education I have extensive experience in mechanical engineering services and associated disciplines. My main interests, in recent years, have been in the production of BIM models in AutoCAD Revit to produce design projects for thermal analysis modelling and systems design: thermal analysis of the performance of the building being carried out using IES software to model BRUKL compliance for commercial buildings. I believe that successful buildings and building services engineering system designs begin with achieving energy efficient building performance followed by the integration of appropriate building services engineering systems that include passive and renewable technologies.In my opinion the term ‘Building Services Engineering’ no longer describes the scope of the professional engineer responsible for the integration of design, construction or the operation of modern buildings and this conviction has driven me to promote and create courses in Architectural Engineering at Northumbria University.
