As a Senior English Language Arts/English Language Learner (ELA/ELL) Content Specialist in the Standards, Assessment, and Accountability Services (SAAS) program at WestEd, I specialize in content and item development of K–12 diagnostic and summative assessments, with an emphasis on development for English language learner populations. I have extensive knowledge and experience working with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), with assessments based on the principles of evidence-based design, and with the development of innovative item formats, technology-enhanced items, and performance-based tasks. In addition to fourteen years of progressively more responsible experience in language assessment, have more than 18 years of experience teaching English as a second or foreign language in both the United States (California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada) and Japan.
