As the Assistant Head of Teaching and Learning, I am directly responsible for:• innovation in teaching and learning from a biblical worldview; • quality improvement processes; and• professional learning. My role is to identify, enable, facilitate and implement continuous improvement and achievement of projects and initiatives to improve staff teaching practice in year levels 7 - 12. I am also to provide trusted advice, support and thought leadership on a range of strategic and operational matters.

I instruct students in years 7-10, promoting the importance of Bible study and teaching the centrality of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The focus is on biblical literacy and expanding the students' theological, philosophical and religious understanding. The course of study includes the teaching of Christian apologetics and comparisons with other religions, belief systems and worldviews.

As the Head of Department for Bible Studies, I have responsibility for the following: • Leading the Department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared vision of Christian education focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.• Facilitating a collaborative approach to teaching and learning in the Department.• Leading the development and ongoing evaluation of the curriculum within this learning area.• Oversight of the progression of the subject through the year levels.• Lead the development, engagement and performance of staff within the Department.• Regularly review all documentation relating to this learning area to ensure that it meets all school and regulatory standards.• Liaising with the Director of Studies on matters relating to the smooth operation of the Department.• Overseeing budget and resource use (including text choice where appropriate).• Ensuring that school goals are met in the context of this learning area.• Mentoring new teaching staff within the Department.• Calling and running Department meetings.

Presbyterian Covenant School is a proposed independent, Christian school seeking to open in the Launceston area in the near future. This was a part-time, voluntary position in which I advised and supported the School Board of Management (SBM) as it seeks to establish this school. Among other things, I wrote curriculum and policies, and worked with the Tasmanian Schools Registration Board to secure registration. I also prepared reports for the SBM and assisted it in complying with the school’s constitution and policies. I ensured that the SBM complied with relevant government legislation and regulations, and kept Board members informed of their legal responsibilities. I helped assess the performance of the SBM against its goals and plans, and assisted in the hiring, training and evaluating of new and prospective employees.

I worked collaboratively with students in years 3-12 on personalized learning programs.

I was the Principal of Herrick Presbyterian Covenant School for 15 years from 2001 to 2015. As well as being responsible for the educational leadership of the school, I designed, developed and implemented the curriculum for all core subjects and year levels grades 1-10. I also taught all core subjects across grades 7-10. Much of my work involved building a strong and healthy school culture and climate through positive public relations.In partnership and consultation with the School Board of Management (SBM), I wrote many of the school’s policies and coordinated five successful reregistration submissions to the Schools Registration Board. I prepared regular reports for the SBM and assisted it in complying with the school’s constitution and policies. I ensured that the SBM complied with relevant government legislation and regulations, and kept Board members informed of their legal responsibilities.

I initially was based at Kingaroy State School and was responsible for teaching German to grades five, six and seven in this and surrounding schools.In 1997 I was transferred to Birkdale and Coolnwynpin State Schools on the bayside of Brisbane. As well as teaching German, I was the Regional Coordinator for foreign language teachers and Acting Principal of the Special Education Unit at Coolnwynpin State School.
