The boat will be manufactured using pre-preg flax fibre for the hull & internal liner, this is a natural fibre that can be recycled and has a low C02 manufacturing ratio. Our construction philosophy is to manufacture the boat as light and stiff as possible, then add weight through battery volume mass (0.2kWh/kg) “an overweight design equals high displacement and high power requirement limitations to electric performance”My background has been in the world of top level motorsport and the automotive I have been in the industry for over 35years, over the last few years I have had a lot of experience in the areas of Hybrid and electric vehicle projects with the Dynamik electric powered SUV, working with Divergent 3D a US company building the Blade hyper sports road car and Williams Advanced Engineering. We are all now aware Hybrid and electric vehicles are being pushed very hard in racing and road cars. My interest in the marine industry comes from my love sailing, power of course, boat design, construction and hydrodynamics, I currently have a new Grandezza 34oc motor yacht that we sail from your MDL marine in Poole, so I have been very interested in looking at what is out there in the market in respect to electric boats, would I go out to sea on one? The company designed and manufactured the A1GP Ferrrari cars• This was a great opportunity to be involved with Ferrari, to design and manufacture from a clean sheet of paper, start up a new design facility and factory. The test car was completed, running and testing within five months. The car was the replacement for the old A1GP car that was manufactured by Lola, A1GP had taken the decision to control the production of there own cars, hence I was asked to start A1GP Technology. With only a small design team, we worked with Ferrari on the engine design and installation, we were responsible for all our own FEA structural analysis, and homologation tests to the latest FIA F1 specification. Wind tunnel testing was carried out at Southampton University using our 40% model; I worked very closely with Michelin on specification of the tyres using our own VDP simulation program to project the tyre characteristics that the car would require. Projects like this are far and few between, and give someone like myself the opportunity to use all of my skills and knowledge, and help young engineers progress through the whole design areas of a racing car. A total of 30 cars were produced, on time and to budget, we supported the teams throughout the season with spares and technical support from our factory and personnel.
