Being in leadership at a small biotechnology company has provided me with a unique set of technical and legal experiences that separates me from others. Since 2004 I have participated in and led the research and development of Ravgen’s patented technology related to the creation of novel non-invasive prenatal genetic diagnostics. I distinguished myself due to my ability to explain our technology accurately and concisely, to a wide range of individuals. As a result, I managed the laboratory work, organized the data and helped draft two manuscripts that described applications of our novel diagnostic methodology published in world-renowned medical journals. I have also headed the effort to maintain compliance with the Clinical Laboratory Inspection Act through the College of American Pathologist for over a decade. This has allowed Ravgen to help 1000s of mothers avoid unnecessary and dangerous CVS and Amniocentesis through our reference laboratory testing.Due to my operational success, Ravgen sponsored my law school education so I could help manage the legal affairs of widespread infringement of our patented technology. Ravgen filed patent infringement suits against eight of the largest diagnostic companies in our field. I managed outside counsel, assisted in trial strategy, and led the document collection for discovery. As a result of my involvement, I was deposed six times for my personal knowledge as well as a 30(b)(6) corporate representative on topics such as laboratory operations, compliance, and licensing agreements. My recorded deposition was used at trial for Ravgen v. LabCorp, which led to a jury verdict of $272,500,000 along with enhanced damages for willfulness of $100,000,000. Finally, I was proud to be the second witness in Ravgen v. Natera which led to an additional $57,000,000 jury verdict.During this time, I graduated magna cum laude from The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. My coursework, concentrating on patent litigation and drafting, was critical in my ability to work with executive leadership towards maximizing development of strategic IP growth. While my time prior to my legal career was spent optimizing operations of our reference laboratory; more recently, I have worked to enhance trade secrets protection of technical innovations that resulted from that optimization. I have also worked closely in reviewing, negotiating and drafting agreements, focused on IP, in order to protect Ravgen assets. I was admitted to the Maryland bar in 2022, with a score that would make me eligible for any other UBE state.
