I am an advocate for underprivileged youth who are in need of mental health services, having worked almost my entire career in the public sector. It saddens me to see youth put in prison for crimes they committed in early adolescence before their brains were fully developed. Instead, I prefer to see them be given an opportunity to benefit from treatment, rehabilitation and education. In the long run, I think that the individual and society will both benefit from this approach.
