For several months I worked as a consultant, once again in the railroad industry in Canada. I designed machines for material handling, programmed PLCs and supervised new installations. Now that I am back in Japan studying, I am continuing PLC programming and consulting work on a limited basis.

I had a six month internship at the Space Robotics Lab at the University of Tohoku in Sendai, Japan. In this internship I was working with White Label Space on a prototype Google Lunar X-Prize rover. I designed a prototype deployable solar panel system for the rover and performed mechanical design on other parts of the rover and ensured integration of all electrical components. At Schlumberger I was responsible for the sustaining mechanical engineering of one product line and prototyped designs for new products in a different product line. I developed manufacturing, maintenance and operating procedures in both cases. My main focus in all projects was fatigue strength and development of predictive models for fatigue life using transient, non-linear structural analysis and transient thermal analysis.

LRDL is a small, multi-disciplinary consulting firm catering to the railroad industry. It acts as engineer and primary contractor for projects such as: train wash systems, locomotive fueling, industrial wastewater treatment plants and machines for train maintenance. At LRDL I was project manager for several large projects. For these projects I was also the mechanical designer and supervisor of work by subcontractors.
