John’s international career spans private, public and third-sector organisations, where he has a long-standing commitment to innovation and strategic growth that delivers profit, environmental sustainability and social impact. John has founded and successfully exited businesses in retail financial services, technology, project management and business support. In 2008 he retrained as an enterprise educator to help focus all his work on support to entrepreneurs and innovators. John recently completed a series of assignments with the European Union's Institute of Innovation and Technology, advising its climate change subsidiary on the internal transformation needed to meet its systems change objectives. John combined this work with supporting grassroots entrepreneurs and community change-makers. For the last 20 years John has been investigating the question 'what makes a start-up or small ventures grow big?' He hopes to never stop searching for this answer, as he feels there's always scope for improvement, learning and development!John holds an MA in International Politics and Economics from Kingston University, an MSc in International Business from London Business School and a Secondary School PGCE in Business and Economics teaching from the Institute of Education/UCL London. He is a regular speaker at conferences on digital innovation, grass-roots entrepreneurship, business transformation and impact evaluation.
