In this role John heads up the Emerging technology and R&D team in the Strategy, Innovation and Technology Group in ESB. He is responsible for leading ESB’s Group strategy for the adoption and commercialisation of emerging energy technologies to meet the evolving needs of customers and to grow new business in support of ESB’s Net Zero by 2040 Strategy.

In this role John headed up ESB's customer facing businesses in Great Britain including energy supply, customer engineering services and electric mobility solutions.

Uk And Ireland

John was the General Manager of Smart Energy Services which developa and deliver an integrated energy management solution for large energy users in UK and Ireland. Smart Energy Services designs, develops and delivers tailored solutions which include, energy efficiency, onsite generation and demand management technologies and we work in partnership with our customers to create long term shared value.

Uk And Ireland

John managed the energy function in Ireland and the development and delivery of the energy strategy and technologies for Tesco UK. In this role he worked with a broad range of technology and finance companies, research groups, and third level institutions to find, assess, develop, and implement innovate, sustainable and competitive energy solutions and systems.

Novaucd

Carbon Decisions (NOVA UCD) specialises in developing innovative carbon strategies and energy technology plans for Irish and UK companies. In this role John: • Developed, led and managed the client engagements in Ireland and the UK• Carried out technical assessments and due diligence of a series of new technologies and energy companies on behalf of clients• Partnered with a broad range of innovative companies, academic and public bodies (eg Carbon Trust) to develop a pipeline of innovative, sustainable energy solutions for his clients

Across Europe

John worked as a Programme Manager in IBM’s consulting practice. In this role he developed and managed large technology projects in Ireland and across Europe from opportunity identification through to project delivery.

Dublin

In this role John managed the creation and establishment of a new ICT centre mission (30 people) within IBM Ireland in collaboration with the IDA and Enteprise Ireland. He managed the:• Development of the function from concept through startup to maturity• Hiring and management of a team of project managers, business analysts and developers to deliver a series of projects based on the development and deployment of customised Internet applications to IBM’s suppliers (14,000+) across Europe• Development of a series of ICT web technologies to transition IBMs supplier collaboration tools and invoicing systems to the web• Establishment of a research partnership with the Smurfit Business School

Dublin

Operations Manager In this role John was responsible for managing a 70-person production team, the equipment, and the high volume manufacturing of a magnetic storage thin film plant in Dublin. As part of this role he also set up a part time degree course with DCU in applied physics.. Lead EngineerJohn led a team of engineers in the design, fitting out and commissioning of a 24x7 magnetic thin film disk plant in Dublin (worth €500M). He led the technical team through hiring, overseas training. He played a key role in the customer qualification and subsequent ramp into production that was successfully implemented on time.
