This position is responsible for making daily news assignments, dealing with logistics, monitoring phones, scanners, wires and keeping up with local contacts to ensure newsroom is aware of all potential stories, especially breaking news.Responsibilities Reviews all news releases, monitors police and fire scanners, and monitors other local and national news sources for story ideas. Plans and assigns the news stories of the day and contributes to large news event coverage. Deals with time and logistics to make sure the selected stories are covered efficiently with available staff. Contributes to multiple platforms on a daily basis including writing for the web site, writing for newscasts, creating graphics, shooting and editing video. Makes calls to maintain relationships with local agencies like police departments, courts, etc. Contacts news management in the event of significant breaking news that requires additional resources or would require interrupting regular programming.

For six months i worked as the Community Relations Officer for Tumbleweed Youth Development Center. While working there I was able to raise the profile of the agency by publicizing on Television, Radio and Print the success and accomplishments made by the youth with help from the dedicated professionals who work here. I have enjoyed the opportunity to help and will continue to volunteer with Tumbleweed in the future to help this non-profit as I have done with others throughout my entire professional life. Tumbleweed helps homeless youth in our community over three thousand newly homeless every year. We provide a safe space for collaborating with youth and young adults in our community who are vulnerable or experiencing homelessness. As the News Assignment Manager at KTVK-TV-3, for 20 years, I was responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the News Desk and directing a staff of 60 or more. This involved being aware, at all times, of what was happening in the world and being prepared to disseminate information quickly striving to get the message out to the public as soon as possible! I was responsible for interfacing with all local and statewide government public information offices as well as private PR representatives. As a result I have a wealth of media and communication experience and media contacts through out the community. I have used many media platforms to aid in my daily tasks such as; Twitter, Facebook, Periscope and our direct in office Email; fishing through hundreds of tips a day to air the best produced, most informative news of the day.
