Since leaving school at 16 I have always worked and never been unemployed. My work experience includes market gardening, office work, shipping clerk and working as the Assistant Warden at Hawes Youth Hostel, which is where I met my wife Diane in 1986. I left the YHA in 1989 and started work for a firm of bailiffs and in 1992 I set up my own company working for Local Councils, HM Customs & Excise and private Landlords. In 1993 Diane joined the business and we worked together for 15 years making the company a success. In 2007 however, we decided we were ready for a change and looked into doing something which had been a passion of ours for several years... We wanted to open an art gallery!We searched around for the right premises until we finally landed in Pocklington! There was a small shop on the market place which was dilapidated and unloved but we just knew we could make a go of it! The shop needed totally gutting and re-fitting which we did ourselves with the help of Diane's brother, a joiner by trade. We took pride in our work and it soon looked the part and we were finally able to lay the solid wooden floor made from good English oak... The Acorn Gallery opened its doors on 1st December 2007 and we haven't looked back...Specialties: Helping you to smile every day :)
