I investigated, wrote, produced and presented stories to do with New Zealand’s rural sector. I worked to daily deadlines and as well as being out in the field doing news packages I conducted phone interviews and wrote stories for the evening news bulletin. I also produced more investigative pieces such as regional council’s double-standards on waterway pollution, rural depopulation and a court case, which have earned me two journalism awards from NZGAJ. On top of my reporting duties I produced and hosted the show ‘Point of View’ in which I conducted in-depth sit-down interviews with various politicians and agricultural experts. In this role I interviewed the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, and the Minister and Shadow Minister for Primary Industries, among others. While travelling around Asia, Europe, North Africa and the U.S I wrote freelance travel stories, worked on boats, and wrote and recorded songs—later releasing them in a debut folk album.

Attempted to ensure the smooth running of the newsroom at 3 News Bureau in Wellington (now newshub). Produced and reported on stories; the most memorable of which was a piece I did on New Zealand’s Freemasons. I also spent time in parliament attending the Prime Minister’s weekly press conferences and interviewing ministers and various other MPs as well as conducting interviews for reporters based in other parts of the country.

Interviewed someone topical or interesting each month. Subjects included the Project Director of the company behind Soho Square, New Zealand’s only harpsichord luthier and Ponsonby’s oldest person.
