Principal Platform Cloud EngineerWalt Disney World Oct 2020 - PresentLake Buena Vista, Florida, UsI'm responsible for cloud infrastructure design for applications running on Windows & Linux that are migrating from on-premise data centers to Azure or AWS cloud platforms. This role includes resolving any technical issues that the provisioners were not able to resolve during the migration of an application to a cloud platform. I'm also involved with creating or updating existing Terraform or CloudFormation templates that are missing functionality needed to complete application migrations. I work with our architecture teams to define new cloud standards that are needed to complete the migrations of on-premises applications to AWS or Azure. Working with the database team members to architect a solution for provisioning Microsoft SQL Server with Availability Groups across Azure regions. I'm also handling the management of two third-party companies to ensure they follow the company cloud security and architecture standards. Currently using the Azure Migrate and Azure Server Recovery (ASR) tools to migrate a multi-application IIS server farm to Azure. Designed a solution to integrate HashiCorp Vault with Azure using managed identities to allow applications to access HashiCorp Vault without hard coding secrets in their configuration files. -
Principal Platform Infrastructure EngineerWalt Disney World Jun 2018 - Oct 2020Lake Buena Vista, Florida, UsMy first project was to to fully automate the Chef Server infrastructure provisioning to AWS using vendor’s AWS Nested CloudFormation templates and Terraform template wrapper to completely build out the Chef Infra Servers, Chef Supermarket Server, and Chef Automate Server using our company cloud architecture standards. While developing solution for new Chef infrastructure, I develop a process to migrate Chef Postgres database from one version to another that contained data for 10,000 managed nodes hundreds of cookbooks, and five Chef organizations which included a rollback and throughly tested procedure in case it was needed. I also updated the Chef cookbooks to allow Apache Tomcat, IBM MQ Series, and RabbitMQ to function properly when used by applications that the combined the middleware software packages. Worked with the network security team to design a Linux firewall strategy to stop east-west traffic on the company internal network. We were also required to support tools like Terraform, Consul, and Vault used by system engineers in AWS and Azure. Designed and automated a process for patching the operating system on EC2 instances in AWS autoscaling group using Packer to create custom AMI. Another project was to created Linux DNS Server monitoring tool using Python program to capture metrics and integrate into company's App Dynamics application. Developed a solution using LinkerD (Kubernetes Service Mesh) to capture request-per-second metrics which were needed to automatically scale up and down of application pods using the built-in Kubernetes HPA (horizontal pods autoscaler) to meet capacity team requirements to use AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service). -
