At Korte, I installed and serviced all types of HVACR systems. Residential, commercial, industrial A/C, furnaces, geothermal, boilers, chillers, ductwork, sheet metal fab, welding, grease hoods, chilled water systems, gas piping, Etc. I left there only for the chance to move indoors and have more of a regulated work hours. Loved the work and the people I worked for. One of the best companies in the industry for sure!

I taught 4th year HVAC to local apprentices through the ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors) program. This was their final year of classroom instruction before they were allowed to take the Regional Journeyman’s test. I loved teaching and spreading the knowledge of the HVAC industry. I am a bit biased, as I have worked in this industry since I was 15 years old and my mother dropped me off at my worksites. This industry has steadily lost ground with getting the younger generation interested and committed to making HVAC a lifetime career. Our average age of a HVAC tech here in Northern Indiana is 55. No offense to us oldies out there, but we need some young blood to keep this industry moving with the times and technology! Teaching for me was just that. Sparking the thoughts that helped the techs put two and two together and making HVACR fun and interesting. So many think that in order to have the American dream you have to go to some prestigious college and get a fancy degree and have a mountain of debt for years if not decades to come. That may be true for some, but not all. This industry has one of the best pay scales and creates so much overall field knowledge that most full time techs can virtually fix or repair anything that life throws at them. This is a very rewarding field of service and I hope that someday I will be able to pick up where I left off and spark some more interest and growth in this industry.

Worked as a Service tech repairing anything HVAC related, new construction HVAC installs, AOR installs, and when slow, worked in the Metal Fab shop welding up plate steel parts for use in the cement truck assembly (J.O. Mory's metal fab shop was not limited to only doing HVAC fab work.) Loved the work and the gaining of new skills.

I had one senior tech there that in my third year finally made it all click for me. Ever since then, I have been hooked on HVACR. The way he explained a system operation finally put two and two together for me. Ever since then I love to learn and grow in my HVAC skills. I hope to someday do the same for another tech.
