Aviation Policing

Selected to join a highly specialised criminal investigation department, I investigate a range of aviation based crime, risk and threat. I provide robust response to criminal offending; driving the direction and strategy of investigations which include management of insider threat and a wide variety of criminality threats across Heathrow and London City airports. Gathering and appropriately sharing intelligence to minimise and mitigate threat and risk, I also manage a diverse range of high risk and volume criminal incidents across all terminal buildings and landside locations. This includes the investigation and resolution of aviation offences, sexual offences, public order and breaches of Heathrow bylaws alongside prisoner processing under the air navigation offences legislation. I demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills, effectively diffusing heightened situations and influencing effectively to ensure the most positive outcomes. During this time, I also worked on a dedicated crime desk, overseeing and prioritising reports. Utilising data, I provided clarity on criminal activity to support proactive reductions in offending and increase offence detection; building and maintaining community confidence in policing services.I have built and maintain effective relationships across internal and external partnerships including representatives from Heathrow Airport, Border Force, Highways Agency, fire services and airport security to promote the most cohesive and effective service delivery. Within this busy and diverse setting, I respond effectively to a spectrum of critical incidents; ensuring strict compliance to exacting requirements in often critical environments.

Criminal Investgation Department

I held responsibility for investigations, from initial planning and strategy setting, pursuit of lines of enquiry and completion of case papers through to presenting evidence at Crown Court. I consistently secured the best use of resources whilst ensuring exceptional service delivery. I managed a wide range of cases from fraud sexual offences, burglary, robbery and acquisitive offences through to violent crime and drug offences, delivering the very highest standards of evidence to support convictions. I also served in various specialist units:Burglary and Robbery Squad - I was actively engaged in reducing robberies through intelligence led detection; monitoring trends, developing analysis and responding to fast time intelligence to secure the most constructive outcomes. I managed varied investigations, interviewing and building case files for presentation to the Crown Prosecution Service. Community Safety Unit - I investigated some of the most challenging offending in the community; securing convictions whilst supporting, often highly vulnerable, victims. Working in successful liaison with multi-agency partners, I focused particularly on the mitigation and management of domestic violence offending; ensuring the appropriate prioritisation of cases and the promotion of robust safeguarding for high risk victims of domestic violence. I demonstrated effective organisational skills and partnership working to secure the best outcomes for victims; working in partnership with social services, mental health, probation, housing, drug and alcohol services and independent domestic violence advocates to pursue the overarching aim of providing robust safeguarding. Home Office Secondment - I was selected to join a HO investigation unit. During this short posting, I assisted in the management of investigations involving false applications made by asylum seekers.

Operational Policing

Beginning my service as a constable, I worked through a range of roles building a strong foundation of enquiry, observation and personal interaction. Providing immediate response to critical incidents and the management of operational activities, I brought a considered approach to my work; processing information quickly and accurately. I exercised exceptional conflict management skills and demonstrated an ability to connect with people even in the most challenging of circumstances. Selected to work within a borough crime squad, I worked both independently and as part of a dynamic team, tasked with reactive and proactive investigations. I ensured adherence to all legal compliance requirements; assessing and documenting all tactical options to support decision making at the most senior levels. I transferred to detective duties having demonstrated an intelligent and competent eye for detail, enquiry and observation.

Working within airside security, I conducted security around airport staff. Following significant terrorist activity, I worked as a trainer; teaching staff on the application of increased vigilance including the use of x-ray machines, body searching and identification checks to meet new Department of Transport requirements. On promotion to Team Leader and Security Supervisor, I managed a team on a security control point; ensuring the search process met exacting standards. I also held responsibility for the welfare and career development of my team members.
