Led the nation's most recognized statewide education improvement plan, including unifying the state’s fragmented early childhood system, modernizing curriculum, professionalizing the preparation of educations, and providing pathways to prosperity for all high school graduates.Today Louisiana is a better educated state than at any point in the state’s history. Louisiana’s class of 2018 included 5,000 more graduates than did the class of 2012. Five thousand more students in that class earned the state’s TOPS college scholarship, and 5,000 more enrolled in college after graduating high school. In that time, the number of Louisiana students earning Advanced Placement early college credits has increased by 167 percent, and Louisiana ranks number one in the nation in the percentage of high school seniors completing an application for higher education financial aid.In 2019, Louisiana students ranked first in the nation for improvement in 8th grade mathematics on the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP). Over the last decade, Louisiana ranked in the top 10 states for improvement on every one of the four main NAEP tests.

Moved to Louisiana to lead the state's post-Katrina intervention in the City of New Orleans, creating the nation's first system of open-enrollment, non-profit charter public schools. A 2015 study of the effort concluded, "We aren’t aware of any district or program that has had this kind of improvement across such a wide range of outcomes." After a decade of state intervention, New Orleans Public Schools is now led by a local school board and superintendent.

Under Mayor Michael Bloomberg, led the effort to reinvent 100 low-performing high schools via more than 400 small high schools, led negotiations with the United Federation of Teachers, led facilities space allocation function for nation’s largest school system, and founded NYC iZone to design technology-enhanced school models of teaching and learning.

Overhauled strategy, governance, and staff of two regional operations, dramatically increasing teacher effectiveness, alumni impact, corps size, and revenue.

Founded Advanced Placement literature program and technology-focused magnet program while teaching grade 9, 10, 11, and 12 English. Served as a leader of state-funded whole-school reform implementation resulting of Abbott court ruling.
