John is one of 3 founding members and creator of the Collaborative Lifecycle Management Solution, which is an integration solution of products made up of Rational Team Concert, Rational Quality Manager, and Rational Doors Next Generation. One cornerstone of the IBM Rational technical strategy is a high degree of integration among the product set to support our customers' overall application development lifecycle; from requirements elicitation in DNG, to code development in RTC, to testing and overall quality management in RQM. John joined the Rational division of IBM to start Rational Quality Manager in 2007. As RQM founder, lead architect, and designer, John grew a team of 30 developers, spanning five labs across multiple geographies in RTP, Lexington, Mexico, China, and India. John personally designed the core test management model that forms the core of RQM. This model allows customers the ability to create test plans, test cases, and test results in a powerful and flexible model that is both easy to use, while still supporting the complexity needed by the most sophisticated customers. John and his team worked collaboratively to deliver 5 major RQM releases that have exceeded revenue goals every quarter since introduction.

John was the lead architect of all functions in the ITCAM for SOA product related to Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) Management. He partnered with the ESB development team in Hursley and the newly acquired DataPower organization, led a team of developers across US and China, and designed the monitoring support of Service Component Architecture (SCA), WebSphere DataPower, and WebSphere Message Broker, as well as the mediation management support for SCA. His leadership and teamwork across all ESB teams led to the development of a strong working partnership among the Tivoli SOA Management and AIM ESB Development organizations.

John is recognized as the WebSphere expert within Tivoli and was sought out by other technical leaders for his input in several project deliverables.He lead the efforts around J2EE adoption for the development teams of the Tivoli Event Console, Tivoli Configuration Manager, Tivoli Service Level Advisor, Tivoli Privacy Manager, and Tivoli Identity Manager in their efforts to incorporate WebSphere into the current products, including defining the architecture and design for the technology integration. John was the lead and driving force to incorporate Tivoli technology into the WebSphere foundation, including incorporation of Tivoli scheduling technology, and use of a consistent approach to agent technology in WebSphere and Tivoli.

John led a team of developers in creating new technology to solve problems associated with configuring and running an appliance in a completely unattended environment. He defined the content of the management appliance advanced technology project, made the initial proposal to Tivoli Executive Management for approval, and led the project through the initial stages of development.

John proposed uniting several efforts related to user interface technologies into one consolidated effort for Tivoli's products. He worked across the management team and product management teams as the lead architect and designer of the Presentation Services Framework, and created technology to allow inputs and outputs from GUI components based on different technologies to be able to connect; a giant step towards the first GUI componentization model.

After the acquisition of Tivoli Systems, the merged IBM SystemView / Tivoli organization needed a product to tie the two technology bases together. Tivoli’s strength was in distributed systems management, and IBM SystemView’s strength was management of S/390 environments. The Internet was forcing customers to build application systems that crossed the S/390 and distributed environmentsJohn drove this effort by recommending and designing the reuse of existing technology from the NetView Graphic Monitoring Facility to build an Application Management product that spanned the distributed and host environments. By retooling the existing technology, John was able to bring a product to market a year sooner than all other proposals.

John was responsible for the development of the communications sub-system for Netview Graphic Monitor Facility (NGMF) component of NetView/390. He was the team leader for the workstation components for the V2R1 release. He was the Chief Programmer for the overall NetView V2R3 release.
