About John Whitfield

Experienced software development executive with a long history of leading and managing teams to deliver innovative, successful, and profitable products. Throughout my career in software and hardware development, I’ve come to rely heavily on my core competencies to always accomplish my goals:• Ability to see the big picture and work towards strategic goals while at the same time understanding the technical details at both a software and hardware level.• Strong leadership, team building, and an awareness that well led and organized teams are motivated teams.• Creating successful products is about satisfying customer needs, leveraging novel technology, as opposed to building technology for technology’s sake. • Talent for explaining complex technology in ways other business executives and customers can comprehend.I am currently the VP of Development for the IBM CLM/CE suite of application lifecycle management (ALM) software development tools. Persistent Systems is the IBM partner responsible for the core development of these products. The CLM/CE suite of products is made up of Rational Team Concert (RTC), Doors Next Generation (DNG), Rational Quality Manager (RQM), and Rhapsody Model Manager (RMM). We perform our development “in the open” on Jazz.net, and I spend a fair amount of my time helping clients leverage our experience in transforming from waterfall development techniques to agile methodologies; helping them replicate our journey into a world centered around DevOps, Continuous Delivery and Integrations, SAFe, as observed on Jazz.net. We are also innovating around SaaS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Site Reliability Engineering to implement state of the art software delivery models.

Armonk, New York, Ny, Us

John is one of 3 founding members and creator of the Collaborative Lifecycle Management Solution, which is an integration solution of products made up of Rational Team Concert, Rational Quality Manager, and Rational Doors Next Generation. One cornerstone of the IBM Rational technical strategy is a high degree of integration among the product set to support our customers' overall application development lifecycle; from requirements elicitation in DNG, to code development in RTC, to testing and overall quality management in RQM. This set of development tools has become a cornerstone of IBM’s strategy to support DevOps and Cloud development. The tools are delivered in either a Cloud model or as traditional on-premise installed toolset. It often takes significant effort to convince a specific product team to prioritize cross product integration while facing a daunting list of internal product demands.
