Brought up and educated in Portugal and England, attained Honours BSc and MSc in Mining Engineering at Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London.Work, mainly in mining but also including steel-making and manufacturing, took me to many countries as Ghana, USA, Canada, Greenland and later as a corporate CEO to Australia, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, the Philippines, Mexico, Indonesia, Chile, and others.After retirement as CEO of Placer Dome Inc in 2000, took up directorships with Finning International, Pan American Silver, Aber Diamond Corporation, Garaventa Canada Ltd, in addition to an existing directorship with Nexen Inc.My goal is to remain healthy and continue to contribute through philanthropy and volunteering.
