Main duties and responsibilities:November 2013 – September 2015Ancillary operator; Process operator: To cover duties in control room in the absence of control room operater.Gas plant monitor; To maintain and service gas cleaning plant and report mechanical faults and leaks.Water cooling system operator; To locate water cooling system leaks either internal or external (leak detecting). Monitor and maintain coal injection system. Prevent pulverised coal breakout to atmosphere. Locating and reporting gas leaks on furnace.November 2011- November 2013Blast furnace operator; Tap blast furnace to fill ladles with molten metal: Drills taphole preparatory to tapping, using power hand drill. Position splasher plate in front of taphole to prevent splashing of metal when furnace is tapped. Guide point of oxygen lance into drilled taphole to tap furnace. Open gates and shutters to direct flow of molten iron onto runners and into ladles. Plug taphole after ladles are filled, using mud gun. Assist other workers in breaking up and removing slag from runners, relining runners with sand, clay and refractory mixture and drying relined runners. Repairs or replaces defective tuyeres, blowpipes, and boshplates in furnace using handtools.
