Having spent my teenage years as a Looked After Child living in children’s homes and foster care in south London, I spent four years studying at university while volunteering for the mental health charity Mind, the homeless charity Centrepoint, a primary school mentor scheme and the university nightline listening and advice service.On moving to the North West, I embarked on a career working with children with social, emotional, behavioural and mental health issues, and have more than 25 years’ professional experience in independent special schools and children’s homes. I also worked in a voluntary capacity in several other roles including Foundation Governor at a local primary school and Independent Member of Cumbria County Council’s Fostering and Adoption Panel.Having received an award for Outstanding Teaching while completing a PGCE in Further Education, I have used my personal, professional, and academic experience to specialise in developing and delivering a variety safeguarding and behaviour support policies, procedures and training courses including (but not limited to) anti-bullying, child protection, child sexual exploitation, mental health awareness, ligature rescue and risk-taking. I have also worked with residential homes for the elderly, mainstream schools and most recently a local authority in the North West.
