Produced architecture documentation, functional specifications, detailed design specifications and test plans for the multiservice access platform. Software development was done in GNU 'C/C++' on a Linux development platform. Worked with Marketing to refine customer requirements in DOORS via customer visits and initial product demonstrations. Access platform based on Broadcom packet switch with embedded Linux running on a multiple MPC83XX Power PCs supporting multiple interfaces/protocols. Responsible for software design and system requirements verification prior to final testing. In charge of software tool and development equipment evaluation and justifying final selections. Project required technical leadership, hiring and planning for an 18-engineer HW/SW development team. Responsible for overall architectural design for multiservice access platform supporting the following interfaces/protocols: Ethernet, IPv4/IPv6, ATM, DS1, DS3, OC3, analog/digital compressed voice. Developed network processor microcode to evaluate the capabilities/performance of the Cport C3 network processor and validate its use. Developed HTML code to simulate potential user interface to allow marketing and customer support to evaluate organization and provide feedback on the design. Produced functional specification for the multiservice access platform to allow for outsourcing overall system development given the size of the engineering effort. Worked with senior management to review outsourcing proposals and select an outsourcing partner from a group of 6 potential candidates. Responsible for architectural design and initial software development of an analog/digital compressed voice card based on the Motorola 8265 Power PC. Supervised a junior engineer to develope initialization and diagnostic startup software written in ‘C’ and Power PC assembly to assist in initial hardware debug.
