As Executive Administrator for the OK Program of Oakland, I provide critical support to the executive leadership team by streamlining operations aligned with our mission to empower Black men and boys to transform their communities. I manage administrative processes for our headquarters and play an essential role in overseeing organizational efficiency including scheduling, communications, and correspondence for executive leadership. Moreover, I serve as the liaison between our Chief Operations Officer and our affiliates while overseeing project timelines and supporting program directors in executing initiatives.

Drew CARES—a subsidiary of Charles R. Drew University—is stationed in South Central Los Angeles, which is home to a large population of Latinos and African Americans. It is also home to the second highest HIV incidence rate in Los Angeles County—as well as some of the highest rates of STIs. To mitigate the prevalence of HIV and STIs, Drew CARES offers rapid testing and PrEP education to the community for free.As a PrEP Navigator our duty is to educate patients about HIV prevention options and provide them with access to preventative care. Plus, we deliver presentations about HIV/STI prevention modalities. Ultimately, we will complete DHSP HIV 101, PrEP 101 and STI related certified trainings.

The Mentoring In Medicine & Science (MIMS) program is an Oakland-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the number of underrepresented health professionals through career exposure opportunities, mentorship, and leadership. In addition, the program aims to equip students with ambitions to become health professionals with the knowledge and resources they need to be successful in their desired field. I am very grateful to have the chance to be partnered with a physician mentor through MIMS for the next six months.

As an interim instructor via Calculus Roundtable, my task is to educate middle school students with respect to science—with an emphasis on biomedical concepts and applications. The Community School for Creative Education (CSCE) engages with students from surrounding communities to provide a rigorous college-preparatory program integrated into a culturally rich, arts-infused, highly personalized curriculum inspired by Waldorf education for the diverse students of Oakland.

The mission of Calculus Roundtable is to provide STEM-based educational programs to underrepresented students—specifically, students of color. Using an inquiry-based approach, fellows in the organization can take on various roles—e.g. tutor, mentor, or project management etc—while working with a professional in their field of expertise or interest. My work is centered around teaching students how to code, tutor them in math, and help them gain interest in the sciences while simultaneously participating in post-baccalaureate research.
