I believe that the children and hardworking families of Southwest Washington need a new voice. They need someone who has seen first hand the challenges and successes that they have had over the last decade. I hear everyday from my students, and their families, what their concerns are for our future. As a Social Studies teacher who promotes active citizenship and civic engagement in the classroom, I can no longer stand idly by when I feel their voices are not being heard. All students and families deserve representation that will listen to them and fight for their needs. This includes our communities that have traditionally been left behind and marginalized. I want to demonstrate that even though people may disagree with one another on issues, that we can be cordial and civil with one another as we work together to build a more perfect 18th and community here in Southwest Washington.
