As coordinator, I play an active role in the academic leadership of the Bachelor of International Development. My core responsibilities include: teaching core courses in the degree, student academic support and navigation, participation in curriculum setting and revisions, and facilitating faculty interactions with the College and students. I coordinate the day-to-day operation of a 4-year, 40-course program including advising and counselling students; assessing student progress and achievement; facilitating course delivery; consulting with colleagues, program advisory committee members, partners throughout Humber College, employer, professional, and academic associations; and performing other duties in support of the Associate Dean and Dean. I contribute to the academic leadership of a professional team of faculty experts, providing guidance for part-time and partial load faculty and participating in College committees.

Courses I teach:Introduction to DevelopmentStudents have the opportunity to learn a variety of approaches to economic and political development and the interconnections between development and humanitarian relief. Development Theories and ApproachesThis course provides an in-depth exploration of development theories and their relationship to practice. Theories such as modernization, dependency theory, world systems theory, neo-liberalism and post-development theory are analyzed, focusing on both their strengths and limitations.Canadian Overseas Development PolicyThis course explores Canada's and Canadians' understanding and practice of international development. It analyzes the intersection of development, trade and foreign policy in Canadian public policy, as well as the role of the Canadian private sector and civil society in development.Project Design and PlanningStudents undertake a major individual assignment, which includes the preparation of a proposal for a real, or a hypothetical development project.World Geography This course provides students with an overview of the spatial relationship between and among the major regions of the modern world. Areas of emphasis include the historic, demographic, socio-economic, cultural and political developments of the selected regions. The course also examines key global issues such as the notion of good governance, accountability, reform, the promotion of democracy, and human rightsHuman Rights and International LawStudents examine international legal provisions that ensure respect for the individual and for populations caught in conflict. They will also examine human rights law applicable to refugees and internal displacement.Development EconomicsThis senior-level undergraduate course in development economics provides students with a survey of relevant and recent thinking specific to macroeconomic development in low income countries with examples from around the globe.
