About John Asbury

» I am an accomplished political science graduate of the University of Oregon with a focus on environmental policy and strategic communications. » Passionate about climate action and advocacy, I cofounded and currently lead the Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) chapter at U of O. I have successfully mobilized students and community members to actively engage with legislators and promote policies for pressing climate challenges. » One of my most significant accomplishments during my time with CCL has been leading a delegation to Washington D.C., where we (a group of 4 members) successfully engaged with several prominent Congress members. This advocacy led to commitments of support for key legislation related to carbon pricing and clean energy permitting reform, further validating our efforts to address pressing climate challenges. » I was a participant in The Fund for American Studies' Summer 2024 academic internship program in Washington D.C., where I attended congressional briefings, seminars with leaders in US politics, and economics courses at George Mason University.» I believe in the power of community outreach and education to drive change, evident in my efforts leading pollution prevention campaigns, promoting clean energy permitting, and advocating for reduced dependency on fossil fuels. I also bring to the table core competencies in advocacy, foreign policy, public speaking, public policy, relationship building, and energy permitting reform, among others.» During my academic journey, I was recognized on the Dean's List from 2021 to graduation in June of 2024 where I also received Summa Cum Laude academic honors and Political Science departmental honors, reflecting my dedication and commitment to my studies. My undergraduate thesis analyzing the role of anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric in Conservative political strategy, received the Philo Sherman Bennett Prize for Outstanding Thesis.» I've also been privileged to serve as the Editor-in-Chief of The Axe, leading a team to produce an award-winning high school newspaper, a member of the Phi Betta Kappa Honor Society, and a member of the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society.» I possess robust experience in research, demonstrated by my involvement with CCL campaigns and academic projects spanning international climate negotiations, and urban policing strategies, and LGBTQ rights in political discourse.Top Skills:Congressional Lobbying, Politics, Public Policy, International Relations, Data Analysis, Research
