John is the Director of International Tax Capability and Advice at the Australian Taxation Office. John has over 30 years' international tax experience, including General Manager International Tax, Maersk Oil and Gas (Denmark), Structured Finance Executive, Commonwealth Bank of Australia (Sydney and Malta), Senior Tax Associate, Baker & McKenzie (Melbourne), and Tax Manager, Arthur Andersen and KPMG (Hong Kong). John wrote Tolley’s International Taxation of Upstream Oil and Gas (LexisNexis, 1st edition 2014, second edition 2017), Tolley’s International Taxation of Corporate Finance (LexisNexis, 2014), International Taxation of Manufacturing and Distribution (Kluwer Law, 2016) and International Taxation of Energy Production and Distribution (Kluwer Law, 2018). He has presented international tax courses in 15 countries, holds a PhD from the College of Law, Australian National University, and is a Chartered Tax Advisor. John’s responsibilities include International Tax Planning Typologies, PGI international tax cases including tax structuring, transfer pricing, IP and related RFIs, International Tax Capability including International Tax Topics and US Tax planning MAAL Structures, and OECD Aggressive Tax Planning, Mandatory Disclosure Rules, BEPS Minimum Standards, and Hybrids Mismatch projects.Specialties: Specialities are international tax planning and tax risk management, including oil and gas taxation, structured finance, mergers and acquisitions, and transfer pricing. He has extensive experience with cross border structured finance with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and presented international tax courses in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Zurich, Warsaw, Aberdeen, Jersey, Lugano, Cyprus, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Houston.
