Chief Financial Officer for a multi-affiliate and multi-state not-for-profit corporation founded by the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson. The combined budget of the four affiliates (organization) exceeds $9 million, operates over 10 programs, and employs over 45 people in seven different states. Supervises finance department personnel, event planners, and other consultants. Prepares budgets, cash flow projections, authored and update the agency’s cost allocation plan, leads the annual audit. Improved cash management. Prepare or review all compliance filings. Reorganized the department and increased productivity principally with improved staff training and performance monitoring. Implemented cost savings measures. Improved compliance with governmental rules and regulations. Regularly confers with board chairs. Reports directly to founder and CEO, Reverend Jackson and the Audit Committee. Also functions as the Risk Manager for the company regarding general liability, worker’s compensation, director’s error & omission, and property insurance.

Supervised the timely completion of financial audits for client companies including Citizenship Education Fund, People United to Save Humanity, PUSH for Excellence, Rainbow PUSH Coalition, and Rightway-Huggins Construction Services, Inc., various housing authorities, and residential management corporations. Performed financial analysis and due diligence for CTA express train service to airports. Presents audit results to senior management and board of directors. Supervised internal audit expenditure review of CHA policies governing the reimbursement of travel, training, tuition costs and communication technologies.

Chief accountant for a small construction firm. Authored proposal to obtain a two million dollar ($2,000,000) construction contract with the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA). Prepared job cost progress billings in accordance with CHA and federal guidelines. Prepared monthly and annual financial statements, corporate tax returns, and managed all payroll tax compliance. Prepared monthly construction status reports.

Supervised finance department (14 people) consisting of accounts receivable, accounts payable and general accounting staff. Reported directly to the Chief Financial Officer. Prepared monthly financial statements and analyzed divisional operations. Designed and implemented internal control procedures. Supervised agency’s response to Department of Labor audit findings. Negotiated $169k contract modification with the Illinois Department of Human Services. Approved invoices for payment and managed vendor relationships. Met with Finance Committee of the Board of Directors on a monthly basis. Performed routine web-based treasury management duties including, ACH, positive pay, and inter-company account transfers.

Planned, supervised, and conducted the annual audit of client companies. This included A-133 and other compliance audits. Client companies included but are not limited to: Infrastructure Engineering, Inc., Citizens Information Services, Abraham Lincoln Centre, Hales Franciscan High School, Residential Energy Customer Loan Fund, Standard Parking Corporation, Chicago Public Education Fund, City of Markham, and St. Mark United Methodist Church. Evaluated and reported on systems of internal controls. Presented audit reports to board of directors and executive committees.
