I served four years in the Navy as a sonar technician in the submarine force, receiving an honorable discharge. I then found a job in a calibration lab, certifying and repairing industrial test equipment. While working full time, I pursued my education and obtained an Associate’s degree in Business. In pursuing my business degree, I started and managed my own company, Southside Homes, in residential rental management. Looking to the future, I obtained my Oklahoma home inspection license and started the inspection division, HLC Home Inspections. Performing home inspections facilitated many connections in the Oklahoma real estate industry, leading me to obtain my Oklahoma real estate license. This allowed me to add real estate sales to my growing Southside Homes business. In order to add value to my customers, I enrolled and obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Commercial Construction Science from the University of Oklahoma.While excelling in this degree program, I had the opportunity to intern with Austin Commercial in their BARA partnership helping to build the new 2 million-square-foot, $1.27 billion Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. This internship set the stage for my career in commercial construction.

I graduated from sonar school, typically a 20 week school, in 18 weeks and was assigned to USS Cavalla SSN 684 based out of Honolulu, Hawaii.During my tour on USS Cavalla, I qualified submarines within six months, about half the time typically taken to qualify, and received my “dolphins” (insignia designating submarine qualified) on top of the ice cap at the north pole. I qualified and stood various watches including Basic and Advance Sonar, held various auxiliary jobs such as maintaining sonar division’s classified information and firefighting equipment. As an E-4 rank, I was in training for Sonar Supervisor, a senior enlisted position of E-6 or higher.I achieved many awards such as navy good conduct medal, Navy expeditionary medal, national defense medal, two meritorious unit commendations, and many more medals, ribbons and letters of commendation.
