Linkage Mapper supports regional wildlife habitat connectivity analyses. It consists of six tools that automate mapping and prioritization of wildlife habitat corridors. It is comprised of open source Python scripts, shared in an ArcGIS toolbox. Dr. Gallo combined his code for this topic with the original Linkage Mapper code in 2015, and became the lead for the project, the Project Director, in Spring 2017. This was formally recognized as autonomous in Spring 2021.

Was founding director for this NGO dedicated to protecting the ecological integrity of the region through science, community involvement, and long-term planning. Developed organization strategy, recruited and managed staff, secured grants, informed public, and built collaborative relationships. Annual budget was $200,000+ upon stepping down from Project Director.

Managed and performed a multi-year systematic conservation assessment using GIS programming and incorporating inter-organizational input. Advised several other conservation planning analyses within the organization.

Quantified the role of private land stewardship in biodiversity conservation. Created a prototype decision-support system for prioritizing conservation actions. Facilitated land acquisition and stewardship.

Five quarters in three courses: Planning Issues, Biogeography, and Oil and Water. In addition to normal TA duties, taught GIS in one of the courses, and conservation planning in another. Developed the course project in three courses. Also mentored six students that developed a prototype of an interactive web-site for defining a community-based vision for sustainability.

Used participatory action research to plan and evaluate Conception Coast Project’s draft Regional Conservation Guide. Also researched public participation GIS.
