About John Jack
In my fifth term in government for Huu-ay-aht First Nations (HFN), my first term as head of government, I have extensive experience in tribal government, especially from a treaty or self-government perspective. I have helped set up and govern Huu-ay-aht's economic development wing, the Huu-ay-aht Group of Businesses. I have served as HFN's representative to the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) Board of Directors since 2012, and I have been its Chair since December, 2016. I have been a Director for HFN for the Maa-nulth Treaty Society, and I served briefly as Vice-President before being reassigned to other HFN work. I was deeply involved in the LNG project between HFN and Steelhead LNG, and I continue to be involved in HFN's work with the forestry industry. I am also an appointee to the Board of Governors for Vancouver Island University, my alma mater. And I serve as a Director for the Gathering Voice Society here in BC and the First Nations LNG Alliance. I am married and a father to three wonderful young children. We live in the Oceanside area of Vancouver Island, BC.

Recently, I was appointed by the Minister of Advanced Education, Hon, Melanie Mark, to serve for one year as a member of the Board of Governors for Vancouver Island University. I am honoured to be appointed, and I will endeavour to do my best for the school from which I graduated.

On 9 December 2016, I was elected by the Board of the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District to become Chair.

I have the honour of being the first official representative of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations to the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District. As a part of being re-elected to Huu-ay-aht First Nations Council, I've been assigned once again to be a Director at the Maa-nulth Treaty Society. This is the organization that governs the common aspects of the Maa-nulth Treaty across the five member-nations: Huu-ay-aht, Kyuquot-Checklesaht, Uchucklesaht, Toquaht, and Yucluthletaht (sp).

Together, these five member-nations are known as the Maa-nulth Treaty Society, which represents its members to the Crown governments of BC and Canada under the Maa-nulth Final.
Eligibility And Enrolment Coordinator (Huu-Ay-Aht)
I was to locate and contact every member of the Huu-ay-aht First Nations (HFN), inform them of the Maa-nulth Treaty process and the importance of treaty enrollment for voting purposes and maintain a master list of contacts and membership. I chaired the HFN Eligibility and Enrolment Committee meetings that were responsible for processing the enrollment.
