Throughout my apprenticeship, I've learned the operations and functionalities of the mill and lathe and gained proficiency in their setup, calibration, and safe usage. Additionally, I actively participated in various projects, utilizing these machines to fabricate and shape different materials with precision. Specifically, my role is to support other research groups involved in fields with vacuum systems and optical systems that require intricate parts built with high accuracy.

This research endeavor included developing a system that uses high currents to rapidly and consistently vaporize radioactive Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) daughter products. The system was used in tandem with SUNY Geneseo’s Pelletron Particle Accelerator to simulate ICF reactions for the purpose of ICF detector calibration. On a typical day, my responsibilities encompassed maintaining and integrating vacuum systems, utilizing 3D design (Fusion 360) for various creations, and operating high-voltage power supplies and semiconductors.
