Currently residing in Brooklyn, NY, Grammy-nominated woodwind specialist and music educator Johnathan Lowery graduated from the Eastman School of Music with Bachelor degrees in Music Education and Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media, with a saxophone concentration. In 2019, John graduated from New York University with a M.M. degree in Jazz Studies with a concentration in woodwinds and composition. John has had the privilege of studying under artists like Mark Turner, Walt Weiskopf, Rich Perry, Alan Ferber, Billy Drewes, Keith Underwood, Esther Lamneck, among many others. From 2013-2017, John taught at The Mandell School in Manhattan where he served as the Head of Instrumental Music, and currently teaches at Ethical Culture Fieldston School where he serves part-time as Assistant Band Director. John has performed extensively throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia with various ensembles and tours, including the Broadway revival of HAIR the Musical, the national tour of Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and European tour of Grease das Musical. In addition to his teaching schedule, Johnathan is an active jazz and classical freelancer in the greater New York City area.
