Hello, I am Johnathan Mougin. I am currently a junior at the University of Arizona College of Nursing pursuing my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. I have always had a fascination with the study of medicine and wellness and It always astounded me that a person’s state of homeostasis could be thrown off in such a great degree by the slightest imbalances. My undergraduate years have been spent studying the fields that I felt were most interesting: Nursing and Physiology. Through my education I have gained knowledge on subjects including the body’s anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, chemistry, means of caring for and sharing compassion and empathy with a patient, and the alternative/traditional forms of medicine offered in the United States. I have received several awards for my academics including The Academic Achievement Award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and a 3-year running streak on the Dean’s List. I also possess several other traits that make me a top applicant for a career in medicine aside from educational skills and achievements. I am a natural leader, and would rather take charge of a situation rather than being a by standard. To further the development of my leadership skills I have also attended several leadership workshops designed to create effective/efficient leaders. In addition to the ability to lead, I also possess the innate ability to share empathetic emotions with others. As with my skills in leadership, I have also fit extra courses into college schedule that address how to care for patients in a healthy fashion. These classes have also prepared me to deal with issues that can arise from a career in medicine such as emotional burnout and unintentional patient bias.
