I have earned an important role in the Santa Barbara Farmer's Market community throughout the past 6 years. I have always prioritized health above all else, and selling the all-organic produce of Earthtrine Farm is a perfect avenue to spread this passion whilst also have a direct impact in the betterment of my community's wellbeing. My responsibilities include the distribution of produce to customers and local restaurants, informing customers about the various health benefits of our produce, how to use and store the produce they purchase, keeping track of total profits, how much of what was sold, and communicating this information to the workers on the farm that particular day.

I initially applied to the Natural Cafe as a server. I had just returned from an epic solo trip to Europe, and I was looking for an exciting new work environment The Natural Cafe seemed like a fun restaurant with upbeat employees, while also promoting healthier food options to the public. I quickly moved up to the assistant manager role once the general manager saw my hard work ethic and my natural ability to connect with people. Customers were complementing me and personally telling my boss what a nice and helpful person I was! Once I took on the role of assistant manager, my responsibilities included taking the cash deposits to the bank, keeping track of daily profits, leading my team through incredibly hectic shifts, assisting any concerns or complaints from customers, keeping the back of house workers honest and accountable, writing daily reports consisting of the individual quality of work for each team member, how busy the restaurant was for that shift, who was responsible for what, among many other details that I had to mentally track throughout the day. This job exponentially increased my time management skills, multitasking abilities, team leadership skills and customer service skills.

Through my connections at the farmer's market, I was gifted an opportunity to tutor the daughter of a close friend of mine in mathematics. She was struggling in her differential calculus class, and needed extra help to solidify her understanding. We met 2-3 times a week, and by the end of the semester, her grade went from a D+ to an B+. By the end of the year, she graduated her math class with an A-. The word got around, and I began tutoring her friends and classmates. The results were unanimous; all of my tutees showed significant improvements in their understanding of calculus at a fundamental level. My method was as follows: 1st visit of the week - Go over the material they learned that day, tackle the homework together, and see what topics they struggle with the most. Find similar examples in the textbook that will solidify said topics, and work through them step by step2nd & 3rd visit of the week - Give them anywhere from 3-10 problems that I personally assigned, based on the level of confidence they portrayed during the previous session. These would be problems for them to work on alone. After completion, we'd work through the ones they got wrong (or failed to finish) together, addressing any questions and gaps in understanding. Then, we'd proceed to the material they learned in class that day, and worked through the homework together. Once again, we'd work through textbook examples that would reinforce any areas they found particularly difficult during the homework.
