I work in Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) for the Council.Currently my role works in partnership with East Sussex County Council as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), the Environment Agency and Southern Water to help identify and document where flood incidents are occurring and how best to manage the risk of a recurring event causing property flooding. This partnership work includes regular Integrated Urban Drainage (IUD) meetings between officers and partners to determine how best flood incidents can be taken forward and how we as district Council can deliver our flood risk objectives.Working for the district Council my role is essentially to engage and seek a solution to flooded properties within the district. I try where possible to work in partnership with our partners to find an amicable solution. As part of my role, I am currently reviewing the councils sandbag service. Where possible I aim to phase out the use of sandbags in the district by reducing the risk of flooding of properties from flooding from Pluvial flooding, Groundwater flooding, Tidal flooding, Fluvial flooding and Combined sewer flooding. This phasing out of sandbags will be achieved by working with partner organisations to review the possible options and decide how best to protect the property or make the residents more resilient. As part of my role I also carry out the coastal monitoring of the cliffs on the district's frontage. Lewes has a frontage made up of shingle beaches, undefended cliffs and defended cliffs at Peaceahaven and East Saltdean.I work on organising and managing repairs to the coastal toe defences at Peacehaven and East Saltdean. These works vary in scale due to funding constraints.Whilst working for Lewes District Council in 15/16 and 16/17 I will also be topping up my degree from an FDSC in River and Coastal Engineering to a BSc in River and Coastal Engineering.Currently I have employment with the Council until June 2016.

I began as a Trainee at the Environment Agency in September 2012 since then I have completed the first year at the University of the West of England studying River and Coastal Engineering. Currently I am studying the second year of the program as well as training 3 days a week with Environment Agency. The teams I have currently been to are as follows Asset Performance (APT), Partnerships and strategic Overview (PSO), Hydrometry and Telemetry (H&T), Fisheries and Biodiversity (F&B), Sampling and Collections (S&C) and Flood Resilience (FR).Whilst training with the Environment Agency I also got involved in raising the profile of the training scheme.
