Aesthetic beauty clinic operator. Unique Halo Ltd opened its first Unico clinic in the wonderful Derbion shopping centre in Derby in December 2014. The business has thrived and grown since, providing a range of laser, ultrasound, RF and many other aesthetic treatments and injectables.

Adam’s Cash and Carry is a family-owned and run business based in Peterborough with a 50,000 sq ft warehouse and office complex. We have provided exceptional service to the fast food and restaurant sectors since 2002 with a reputation for integrity, ethics and value. Working from a low-cost model, we offer quality products and services at competitive prices to a range of catering and hospitality businesses. We also act as distributors supplying other wholesalers.My role is to help prepare the business for a phase of rapid growth implementing process, leadership and governance structures appropriate for a business transitioning to become a large national distributor.

Adoption Focus, part of Family Society and incorporating Faith in Families, is a charity providing nurturing, innovative, high quality services for children and families. Based in Birmingham and covering the whole of the UK Midlands, we offer a wide range of adoption services, including adoption support services, schools and family support services, volunteering opportunities and training &consultancy programmes.

The Trust provides a wide range of hospital-based services to a population of around 360,000 people across South Staffordshire, South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire. In June 2018, the Trust successfully merged with the Derby trust to form the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. As the two boards merged to become one, I stepped down. The number of patients cared for each year in our hospitals is impressive - over 47,000 planned and emergency operations, more than 70,000 A&E attendances and around 13,000 daycase procedures across our three hospitals. We employ over 2,500 staff and in 2015 we won the CHKS Top Hospital Award.The Trust was placed in Special Measures in 2013 by Monitor, our regulator, and that status was re-affirmed in 2014. Our hospitals were inspected again in July 2015 by the Care Quality Commission, who highlighted in their report improvements in safety and leadership, caring and compassionate staff and a strong, responsive, open culture. As a result, Monitor took the Trust out of Special Measures following publication of that report in October 2015. The Trust was then able to position itself as a valued collaboration partner and merger candidate with the larger foundation trust in nearby Derby, which has all come to pass.John chaired the People and Charitable Funds board committees, sat on Finance, Quality and Risk, and previously chaired Remuneration and sat on Audit.
